The bike: I absolutely loved the first 40 miles of the bike course. It was mostly rolling hills so going up was a little slow but then flying down was the fun part! I was averaging about a 19.6 pace and felt pleased with that. The last 16 miles weren’t so fun. A lot of it was just slightly uphill or steep hills and I felt I had suddenly gone into slow motion. I watched my pace get slower and I felt discouraged. Another big issue was, for some reason, my right hamstring started really bothering me. At times to let off the pain I tried peddling with just my left leg. Not super efficient for sure. My final time was 3:10:30. I know I can’t compare courses because this course had a significantly higher elevation gain than #imsantarosa703 last year but my time was almost 18 minutes slower. Which regardless, felt a little defeating. There were a few really bad bike crashes I passed along the course so I am very grateful I safe and my body was healthy enough to complete the bike portion. At one point a guy in front of me tossed his water bottle and it almost hit me. Near misses like that made me grateful I’m ok!! #wattieinkhitsquad #wattieink #ironman703 #im703victoria #wattieinkhitsquad2019 #70point3 #racerecap #racereport #trimom #trilife #thisis40 #ad #sponsored #ironman #tritats
