‘The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern.’#March is a dreaded month for me. Not only does tomorrow mark 8 years living without our baby boy Lincoln, it’s also his birthday next week. He would be turning 10 years old. I wish I could throw him a party, buy him gifts, and smother him in kisses. The dread and anticipation is honestly worse than the actual days. And although sometimes I hear myself sharing my story and honestly wonder how I am still standing and breathing, it’s because of my family, friends, and my Savior, who have literally held me up, encouraged me to get out of bed each day, and helped me to continue moving forward. And for that I am grateful. The sport of triathlon has been my coping mechanism. My drug of choice. My therapy. And for that I am also grateful. And if I’m looking for something “positive” that came out of this challenge in my life, it is my perspective on life, and my ability to show a different understanding, compassion, support and love for those who unfortunately have joined this horrible club within the last 8 years. I am not strong. I am not amazing. But I do have an understanding, sensitivity, and strong love for those who have challenges in their life. And for that I am also grateful. My biggest fear use to be that Lincoln would be forgotten. But those who continue to walk by my side each day, listen to my stories, and honor his life, help me realize that those who really matter to us, and who mattered to Lincoln, will never forget him. ️ And they know who they are. #iamblessed #Throughout this month, especially this year of fear and anxiety around the coronavirus ?, I ask that you slow down, breathe, stop to enjoy the sunset, play a game with your kids, and look for ways to serve others.
